Technical Requirements
To use brainX, certain technical requirements must be met. These are explained below.
1. Browser
brainX is a web-based application. A web-based application (web app) is software that runs via the internet or an intranet through a web browser.
brainX supports the following browsers:
| Browser | Supported Version |
|---|---|
| Chrome | current – 3 versions |
| Edge | current – 3 versions |
| Firefox | current – 3 versions |
current – 3 versions means that the browser is supported in the latest version as well as the three previous versions. For example, if a browser is available in the latest version 24, versions 23.x, 22.x and 21.x are also supported.
1.1. Browser Cache
The browser cache is a buffer memory of the web browser in which previously retrieved resources (e.g. text or images) are stored locally as a copy on the user's computer. If a resource is needed again later, it can be retrieved more quickly from the cache than if it had to be downloaded again from the World Wide Web.
Every time the contents of a URL are needed to display a page, the cache is checked first to see whether they are already available.
The advantage is that network traffic and the time to download all components of a webpage are greatly reduced. The disadvantage is that the data stored in the cache may be out of date if the webpage has been updated in the meantime.
It is recommended to clear the browser cache regularly, especially after a brainX update!
A browser cache that is not cleared regularly can lead to undesirable effects when using brainX!
Instructions on how to clear the browser cache in the various browsers can be found online, for example here: Instructions for Clearing the Browser Cache.
In the settings of a browser, it is also possible to specify that the browser cache is always automatically cleared when the browser is closed.
1.2. Browser Add-ons
Browser add-ons can in some cases lead to undesirable effects when using brainX. Please keep any installed browser add-ons up to date, or disable them if necessary, to rule them out as a possible cause of unexpected behaviour.
2. Internet Connection
brainX is a cloud-based CRM system that runs on a web server. An internet connection is required to use brainX.
An exception may be so-called in-house installations, which may only require a connection to the intranet.
3. End Devices
The following end devices are suitable for using brainX:
- Desktop computer
- Laptop
- Tablet
- Smartphone
To enable brainX to be used on as many devices as possible, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones, the software was developed with Responsive Design.
A browser-based software with Responsive Design provides an optimal display and user experience on various devices such as desktop PCs, laptops, tablets and smartphones. The layout automatically adapts to screen size and resolution, remaining easy to read and use.
It is also platform-independent and works directly in the web browser without installation or updates – regardless of the operating system. Responsive Design also improves accessibility, enabling people with different abilities to use the software without difficulty.
Overall, this creates a user-friendly, flexible and barrier-free solution for cross-device use.
Please also refer to the Responsive Design section in the handbook, which explains how to use the handbook with regard to Responsive Design.
